IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO LEARN ENGLISH..

The English Language Learners (ELL) Program at PCI is the only English language program of it’s kind in the greater Lake Atitlan area. While the one-year program is designed primarily for students just finishing grade 6 and entering grade 7 (primero basico), other ages may be accommodated. The goal is to enable beginning English language students to obtain a middle school level of proficiency in English within one year. If you’re the parent of an extremely motivated non-English speaking student and you want to provide your child with an immense learning opportunity, the PCI ELL Program is for you.

In this one-year program, each student will be immersed in the English language, studying up to five hours of English class per day in a positive English-speaking environment. The ELL Program is a proficiency-based language-learning program. This means that advancement in the program is based on individual student performance verified by regular proficiency assessments in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In addition, every afternoon, the ELL students participate in other courses essential to a well-rounded education, among them: Spanish, Art, Physical Education, Kaqchikel, Theatre, Computer, and Community Service. In this way, the ELL students will enjoy a full social life with the entire student body while PCI is in session.

Upon graduation from the ELL program, each student will be able to enroll in PCI’s main campus and with further study obtain an accredited Guatemalan High School and a U.S. equivalent High School diploma that is accepted in colleges and universities in the United States and Europe. Remember, you can enter this program with no prior English experience.

The 2017-2018 ELL program for begins on November 2nd, 2017, a couple weeks after the Guatemalan school calendar ends. After studying English for ten months, the ELL students will finish their school year in August of 2018. During the this intensive program, the student will not be inscribed for his or her current grade at PCI.
