Christine Benes -Principal, Language Arts-

Christine is the Principal at PCI and will also teach Language Arts. Her BS is in teaching students with Learning Disabilities and her MS is in Reading. She has taught learning disabled students in high school and college classes in reading and writing. She has directed two literacy programs and was responsible for the training of staff at a large social services program. At Literacy Volunteers she was responsible for training and coordinating tutors. Most recently, she ran the Tutoring Center at Santa Fe Community College. She spent many years living and working in NYC, taught in Japan and Korea and has traveled extensively. She is thrilled to be back in Guatemala.

Brian Neely

Brian Neely comes to PCI after many years of being involved in education. He has taught high school in the Chicago area and is also a university professor at the University of Wyoming. He has a masters degree in Ancient Near Eastern Religions and is in the midst of doctoral work in the field of higher education. Brian moved to Pana with his wife and three children.

Sharon brings a broad range of experience to PCI. She holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Auburn University and a M.A. in Liberal Studies from Duke University. Her passion for teaching began while serving as a math teacher in the Peace Corps in Lesotho, Southern Africa in the early 1990’s. Afterwards she acquired her certification and taught secondary math in North Carolina for six years. She has been actively involved in teacher training throughout her career and currently teaches online professional development courses to other educators. She embraces a holistic, child-centered approach to education and believes the most important job of a teacher is to help students tap into their innate curiosity and to ignite their desire for learning.

Board of Trustees
Membership of the Board of Trustees will vary over time. However, these are the founding members, and their principal responsibilities are to guarantee the financial stability of the school and to make it into the best educational facility that it can be. Legally, the school is a non-profit Asociacion Civil, and its finances will be transparent to all interested parties.
